The problem:
I don’t actually know what calling name shows up when I use my cell phone. For a long time it said METASWITCH, and for some reason the carrier hadn’t updated the database even after transferring the number. And I’m not the only one – it’s not unusual for people’s cell phones (in particular) to be associated with the wrong calling name, or with the company name from a past employer.
The Twilio application
Using a static mark-up language (TwiML) I was able to create a 4 line script that plays an announcement to the caller providing their caller name, city and state.
So at least now you have an easy way to check for yourself. And the good news – my CNAM is correct (at least in the database Twilio use). Hooray!
